My new foster child.

This is Estilaine. She is three and a half years old and lives in Port Au Prince, Haiti. She is my new foster daughter, as of today.
I have always wanted to help children whose parent(s) need a helping hand. As they say, it takes a village to raise a child. Sometimes, it’s a global village. I will be able to send Estilaine presents. Pretty girl things and books and coloring books. I’ll be able to exchange letters with her mommy in Haiti and, one day, when Estilaine can read and write, I can exchange letters with her, too.
So, now, I need to read and learn about Haiti so I have a better understanding of the place that is her home.
Eventually, my goal is to foster more children. I figure if my mother could raise 8 of us, there’s no reason I can’t help a few more to have a better future, too. From miles away, I already thank this little child for the joy that I feel being able to help give her a better life.

647 million dollar day for online retailers

November 27 last year was a 484 million dollar day for online retailers. (Yes, in one day)
Same day this year? 608 million.
December 4… 647 million.
That doesn’t include auction, travel or large corporate purchases. That’s retail. You know… Christmas shopping. Never let it be said that consumers “just aren’t buying. ”
Hope I didn’t mess this up…
Fracas tagged me… and since she’s my little sis, how can I not play tag? Shades of yesteryear… lol Here’s how the game works;
1. Grab the book closest to you.
2. Open to page 123, go down to the fifth sentence
3. Post the next 3 sentences (on your blog)
4. Name the book and the author
5. Tag three people
Rhonda explained that her six month old baby, who had been in foster care, had died that morning and she didn’t know why. Her mother was at work and couldn’t leave, and she didn’t know where her father was, and the baby’s father had disappeared – again. The only thing the woman could think of to say was, “You’re so young…”
Book: Yesterday, I Cried (by Iyanla Vanzant)
Fracas tagged:
Me, Axe and Iced Mocha (great blogs, which is why I linked…)
So, I’ll tag:
- Schmutzie – because I’ve been voting for her every day in the Canadian Blog awards and she doesn’t know me from a hole in the ground, so this is my rather odd hello… lol
- Shelby – because I totally admire the heck out of this woman …. and
- Doll – because I have a bizarre sense of humor and she’ll growl.
